There are many challenges facing men today.  It is difficult to be a man of God in an environment that demands compromise as the measure of worldly civility, tolerance and community.  Too much of humanity is seeking accommodation for all expressions of living without regard for what is right, for what is wrong.  Herein, this “accommodation”, is the foundation to the spiritual anarchy we are experiencing in the Church in American today.  Ultimately, the root of this spiritual anarchy is in our ignorance; ignorance of what constitutes for men Godly character.  In every aspect of life, men do not know how to respond to the challenges that are demanding us to compromise, to accommodate every social/political hurricane blasting across our lives.  Men find themselves buffeted by storms of worldly compromise at every turn.  Without a proper understanding and pursuit of Godly character to many men collapse from the beatings of the storms.
A proper understanding of Godly character enables men to lead.  Men today respond to adversity rather than serve God.  Men who serve God do so in every aspect of their lives; through the ease of life or in the face of the storms, godly men serve God.  Todd Wagner of Watermark Community Church has identified five basic godly characteristics that men can start with to change their lives and the lives of others around them.  Over the next few days I will post these five one at a time to allow us to consider, reason and begin to implement them into our lives.  Here is the first character:

SERVE THE KING: Seek first His Kingdom, His glory, His righteousness. Hope in the eternal. Live for a greater reward. Don’t live for what this world offers – pleasures, comforts, and material goods. Live for what lasts and what matters – God’s purposes.
Matthew 6:33 – But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things
will be given to you as well.
Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
Joshua 24:15 – But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
Psalm 16:11 – You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm 84:10 – Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
Hebrews 6:10 – God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
